Many work tasks put different parts of the body at risk. Employers must make sure that suitable PPE is chosen and used for the risks that remain after the other, more effective, control measures have been put in place.
This module looks at the PPE used to protect the body from harm: the selection and use of protection for the torso, the arms and hands, and the legs and feet, and high-visibility clothing that keeps the wearer seen.
Work at height is governed by its own legal hierarchy of controls, and personal fall protection, the full body harness and its attachments, sits at the lowest level of that hierarchy. This module gives an overview of the main types of fall protection system, their uses and their limitations. It also covers the PPE for work on or near water, where several tasks carry a risk of drowning.
Finally, the module covers disposable PPE, the health surveillance that some kinds of PPE call for, the maintenance, cleaning, inspection and storage of PPE, and the information, instruction and training that PPE users need, including for emergencies.
